Howdy!
It’s been six months since I started posting on Substack and I figured it’s time I introduced myself and officially welcome you to my blog—Good Taste!
I’m Ariane and I am a content creator, writer, and personal stylist based in New York City. On this platform (and across my others), I like to share content about fashion, travel, food, lifestyle, motivation and anything else I feel like—I’m very into exercising my free will these days.
To those who’ve been with me since this blog was on Wix: thank you for your continued support. And to everyone who’s recently joined the community, welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
Here are 20 facts about me — so you can get to know the person behind Good Taste.
I was born in Lomé, Togo — a small country between Ghana and Benin — and moved to the U.S. when I was eight. Being an immigrant is a huge part of my identity.
In my language, which is Ewe, my last name translates to "wild beard , more or less. So I’ve adopted the name for my online presence/persona.
I’m 30 years old and I’m a pisces for those that care or are curious.
I was named after a French rocket—Fusée Ariane. In my culture it’s believed that you take on the characteristics of the origins of your name. So because rockets are fast, I’m supposed to be speedy and get things done. My family has nicknamed me “fast child” (they say it in Ewe, but that’s the English translation).
I grew up speaking Ewe and French. I still speak Ewe fluently and I still understand French pretty well (if it's spoken slowly). I’d love to spend a few years in Paris (one of my favorite cities) so I can immerse myself and become fluent again.
My favorite subject in school was English. I’ve always loved writing.
I went to college at the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and studied journalism.
I used to work in television news and now work in internal communications for a major bank — still writing, just a different format.
That said, corporate America isn’t for me. I’m working toward being self-employed—hopefully very soon.
In my free time, I’m at the gym or taking fitness classes like F45, Pilates, or barre. I also love cooking, trying new recipes, exploring restaurants, bars, and shops. I’m also into travel, horror movies, parks, and museums — a bit of everything. Once I leave the 9–5, I plan to dive into even more: modeling, photography, DJing, cooking classes, pottery, dancing — you name it.
I love beautiful things — and to me, beauty is everywhere. It’s in people, architecture, and the little details most might overlook. That’s why I love taking photos: to document what I see and share it with others through my lens.
My dream is to build a beautiful, rich life — to capture my experiences along the way and share them with the world in hopes of inspiring others to live fully as well. And if I can make a living doing that? Even better. Funding the dream by living the dream — that’s the goal.
I ran a half marathon last year. I’ve never ran a race before. Not even a 5K, but I made it out alive and I’m actually willing to do it again.
I would describe my style as simple, effortless, and mostly minimalist, although not always. My wardrobe is more timeless than trendy. Don’t get me wrong, I definitely get influenced and incorporate trends into my style, but I keep my items and wear them for years whether they’re “in” or they’re “out”.
I’m working on being smarter about my spending and shopping. The goal this year is to shop my closet when I can and limit myself to 12-15 new items. So far so good, but I won’t be too hard on myself. I have already consumed far less this year than I did this time last year.
My favorite cities that I’ve visited so far have been Paris, Madrid, Nairobi, and Mexico City. I can’t wait to explore more.
I love food, and if I had to choose a favorite, it would be fried sweet plantains.
I’m a night owl. In fact I do some of my best writing at night.
My perfect day off starts with sleeping in, followed by journaling, sipping coffee, and enjoying a slow morning. I’d get in a workout and take a long walk in the sun, cook lunch, create some content, then take a nap before getting dressed all cute for dinner and drinks with friends — and end the night curled up with a book, a movie, or a good scroll session.
I’m building a community for thoughtful, creative souls who want to live with intention, express themselves freely, and connect over beauty, growth, and good taste.
I hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about me, and don’t be a stranger. Feel free to drop a comment, introducing yourself or letting me know if any of my facts resonated with you. 😊
